Jewellery Care and Advice
It is important to look after the jewellery we love and cherish. Here is some valuable advise and top tips for keeping your jewellery looking fabulous.
GENERAL ADVISE Jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first things you take off. Applying this rule to you dressing code will prevent clothing catching or scratching your precious items and contamination with products such as hair spray, perfume and cosmetics. Removing items when visiting the hair dressers, having your weekly manicure or cleaning the house is also strongly advised.
Silver naturally Oxidises over time, becoming tarnished and loosing its shine. This is a process that is unavoidable however there are steps you can take to minimise this and maximise your silver sparkle. Storing you jewellery separately, preferably in you Spearwoks Box away from direct sunlight or radiators will limit the likelihood of scratches and tarnish developing. An added trick to prevent tarnish: put you jewellery inside the sealed plastic wallet provided and squeeze as much air to as possible. This will further limit the oxidising process of silver items.
SILVER CLEANING
For high polished surfaces we recommend cleaning with a soft tooth brush and washing up liquid monthly. Highly textured surfaces such as the Dora Montain reticulation benefit from a stronger tooth brush or scrub every so often with a little washing up liquid. This will make sure you are getting the best shine and limit silver tarnish from developing over time.
OXIDISED JEWELLERY Some of the items available at Spearworks Jewellery are Oxidised, which is a surface treatment applied to the silver that creates a beautiful black finish. We advise storing you oxidised jewellery separately to other items, preferably in your spearworks box. This will protect your jewellery from sharp objects or items that may scratch or rub against your jewellery.
Avoid contamination with chemicals such as perfumes, hair sprays, sun screams, soaps or cleaning products that may weaken or alter the colour intensity.
PEARL JEWELLERY Pearls are delicate and very soft in comparison to many stones used in jewellery. It is important to protect your pearls from damage and maintain their unique lustre.
